Community Board 8 Manhattan (CB8M), which represents the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Roosevelt Island, is seeking a graphic artist to create a logo for the Board. That design will appear on the Board’s website, as well as on materials that publicize the Board’s activities.
About the Board
CB8M, one of 12 community boards in Manhattan, represents the residents and businesses on Manhattan’s Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island. It is the officially designated voice of the community. Its 50 volunteer members are residents or employees on the Upper East Side. They serve as advisors to the City of New York on issues from transportation, to housing, zoning, business development, education, health and human services, recreation, and overall quality-of-life matters.
As a small City agency, the Board operates in two ways: It provides a forum for the community to express its issues to the City, and it serves as conveyor of the City’s proposals to the local community.
The full board and its committees meet regularly. The Board initially addresses issues at committee meetings and then finalizes action on them at monthly full board sessions.
Logo Details and Requirements
The Board's Communications Committee seeks an artist to design a logo meeting the following requirements:
- Must be modern, clear, and convey the function of CB8M—the voice of the Upper East Side.
- Must be scalable across the various size announcements, the website, letterhead and large banners.
- Must be usable in black and white, with the option of some use of color.
- Involve minimal wording. (The logo should emphasize imagery over text.)
- May be subject to multiple rounds of revisions.
- The selected artist will submit 3 different iterations, one of which should include our new slogan: “Your voice on the Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island.”
Submission Process and Timeline
Interested applicants must complete the online application by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026. A group of Board members will review submissions and reply to applicants by the end of April. If selected, the Board expects the finished work -- with multiple rounds of revisions -- to be completed by the end of May.
The online application process requires:
- Basic biographical data
- A PDF copy of your resume
- Contact information for two recent references
- A New York City vendor number, if you have one
- Three recent samples of prior logo designs only, not full marketing campaigns. The selected artist will develop three logo concepts for CB8M
The selected artist will be paid $800 after all work has been completed to the satisfaction of the Board. No work can begin before the selected artist has registered as a vendor in the City of New York's Payee Information Portal.
Potential applicants with questions may contact the Board Office at 212-758-4340 x4 during regular business hours or write to [email protected].
