What is CB8M?

The Manhattan Community Board 8 (CB8M) represents the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Roosevelt Island. CB8M is comprised of 50 volunteer members who serve as advocates and service coordinators for the community and its residents, as well as help citizens resolve municipal service delivery complaints.

What issues does CB8M address?

CB8M reviews and makes recommendations on various issues, including applications for Zoning Text Amendments, building variances and special permits, liquor licenses, sidewalk cafes and street fairs, changes to landmarked buildings or buildings in historic districts, traffic and transportation issues, and more.

When does CB8M meet?

Each month, CB8M committees meet to discuss and resolve issues in the community.

Full Board Meeting - 3rd Wednesday
Land Use Committee - 2nd Wednesday
Roosevelt Island - 1st Monday
Street Life - 1st Tuesday
Transportation - 1st Wednesday
Parks - 2nd Thursday
Landmarks - 3rd Monday
Social Justice - 4th Monday
Zoning and Development - 4th Tuesday
Youth and Education - 4th Thursday

How to get involved

Do you want to make changes in our community?
Here are some of the things you can do:

  1. Report a complaint or request for service to improve our community.
  2. Join our Public Session and have your voice heard. Any member of the public is welcome to speak on any topic for up to two minutes during the Full Board Meeting held every month.
  3. Apply to become a Public Member. Public members can vote in committee meetings and their votes shall be recorded separately as "Public Member Votes."
  4. Apply to become a Community Board Member and become a community decision-maker.

The Community Board office can help resolve problems by acting as a liaison between you and the appropriate City agency. Contact us if you need help with a broken street lamp, a pothole in the street, garbage pickup, a rowdy bar, or any other issues effecting you and the community by:
