How to Compost:
ALL Food Scraps and Food-Soiled Paper
- Use any labeled bin (55 gallons or less) with a secure lid or your DSNY brown bin. Order a free Composting Bin Decal.
- Line your bin with any bag to keep it clean.
- Tie the bag closed and securely close the bin lid before setting the bin out at the curb for collection.
- Write your address on your bin.
ALL Leaf and Yard Waste
- Any labeled bin (55 gallons or less) with a secure lid or DSNY brown bin.
- Clear plastic bag or paper leaf bag.
- Bundle twigs and branches with twine and place on curb next to bins or bags.
Composting Will be Mandatory
Leaf and yard waste separation:
There will be a 3-month warning period before residents are subject to fines.
Separation of food waste and food-soiled paper:
The warning period runs through Spring 2025 before residents are subject to fines.
